What is ‘night’ work?

 ‘Night’ work is work performed during ‘night-time’ which, under the Directive and Irish regulations, is:

  • the time between midnight and 04:00 hours for the transport of goods and between 01:00 and 05:00 hours for the transport of passengers.

Mobile workers and self-employed drivers may do a maximum of 10 hours’ work during the night-time in each 24-hour period, even if only five minutes of that work occurs during night-time.

Any person who spends any amount of time working between the hours of midnight and 04:00 for the transport of goods and between 01:00 and 05:00 for the transport of passengers are subject to a working limit of 10 hours for that 24 hour period.
